Elijah A. Briggs


Corporal Elijah A. Briggs was an American soldier who fought in the American Civil War. Briggs received the countrys highest award for bravery during combat, the Medal of Honor, for his action at Petersburg, Virginia onApril 1865. He was honored with the award onMay 1865.

Briggs was born onOctober 1843 in Salisbury, Connecticut. He enlisted into the 2nd Connecticut Heavy Artillery. He died onMarch 1922 and his remains are interred at the Fishkill Rural Cemetery in New York.
